About the opportunity

As an English Language Teacher, you will teach English language programs to international students at the University’s Centre for English Teaching (CET).

We are developing an eligibility list of Casual Teachers for our peak period consisting of 5-week terms.

Available positions are mostly for experienced teachers of Academic English, full-time (20 hours per week) and part time (8 – 12 hours per week).

Classes are held Mondays – Fridays between 8.00am-12.15pm, 12.20pm – 4:35pm or 4.40pm – 9.00pm (Fridays: 1.40pm-6.00pm) and delivered on-campus.

Your key responsibilities

design, develop, prepare and deliver the language programs offered by CET and perform related administrative tasks. Specifically, demonstrate effective ELICOS industry best practice and represent the public face of CET to students and others (as necessary) in order to sustain and build our business
assist in the design, development, preparation, administration, marking, evaluation and feedback to students of the assessment and testing services used in CET
help create a team environment within the academic department by supporting colleagues, and contributing to the effective organisation and delivery of quality English language courses offered to CET students
address individual student needs and concerns both in and outside the classroom. Liaise with
Education Manager(s), CET Business Operations Manager and/or Counsellor on matters of urgency
undertake CET + Learning Hub and University of Sydney professional development activities to ensure best practice in teaching. Assist in orientation and mentoring of new teachers
other duties as directed by Education Managers and Director.

Qualifications required:

Undergraduate degree (or equivalent)
Certificate IV in TESOL

Desired skills and experience:

Experience in teaching high level academic English
Curriculum development experience
Experience in teaching across a range of programs (academic, general, English for Health Professionals, English for Engineers, other ESP)
Postgraduate degree
